Cupcakes galore help to swell the funds of the Butterfly Appeal

Martina, Sally Daniels, Ryan and Charlie AthorneA host of delicious cupcakes have raised money for the Butterfly Appeal.

There were created at No 5 Angel Hill, in Bury St Edmunds, with a total of £300 being collected from the sale of the confectionary.

Tanya and Charlie Athorne own the wine and coffee house in the centre of the town and decided to support the appeal which has a target of £340,000 and is aimed at building a special garden area for end-of-life patients at the West Suffolk Hospital so patients can spend some of their final days or hours with their loved ones.

It was officially launched in December and is backed by the Bury Free Press.

The My WiSH Charity, which supports the work of the hospital, is running the appeal and Tanya, who is also a maternity care assistant at the hospital, said they support the West Suffolk as often as possible and also offer a 10% discount to NHS staff.

“We made the cupcakes over a two-month period and then sold them. It has been quite successful raising the £300 and My WiSH is a charity which is quite close to our hearts.”

She said that her husband is chairman of the Bury St Edmunds Round Table which also supports the hospital and we thought it was a good idea and an amazing cause to support.

“I am so pleased that the appeal has been launched. We have been brain storming of what to do next to support the appeal. You come up with ideas but you never know what will come up.”

Sally Daniels, appeal manager said “We really appreciate Charlie and Tanya supporting our Butterfly Appeal. They have been fantastic supporters since they first opened the doors of their lovely coffee and wine house. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
