Company's donation helps to purchase wheelchair scales

Sara Ennew and Jane HoskingThe company which supplies nutritional drinks to the dietetics team at the West Suffolk Hospital have helped to purchase a set of scales to weigh wheelchair-bound patients in their homes.

It’s come via a donation of £1,000 from Aymes to the My WiSH Charity, which supports the hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The countrywide business was established in 2008 and provides innovative nutritional supplements and medical nutrition products.

It also donates money to charity and the dietetics team, which uses products for their patients, made an application to the company for a donation towards My WiSH.

And now community nurses will be able to weigh patients while in the comfort of their own home.

The portable scales can be taken out into the community and used to weigh people while in their wheelchair.

Sarah Ennew, the professional lead dietetics, said the team has a significant number of patients and added: “We can now take the scales out with us and assemble in the patient’s home.

“Aymes supports charities and they were happy to give us the £1,000 and the scales will make a big difference to patients as well as it’s a challenge to weigh them when they are wheelchair bound.”

And Jane Hoskings, who is Amyes’ local NHS Partnership manager for the East of England covering a wide area including Suffolk, Essex, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, said the company was keen to support the dietetics team at the hospital.

“I visit them on a regular basis and talk to them about our products and what’s available.

“They wanted to buy some wheelchair scales so when they go on visits they can pop the patients on them and we were happy to help.”

Sue Smith, head of fundraising said “We are thrilled that Aymes chose us as one of their charities. We don’t just enhance care for patients within the hospital but also out in the community so it’s great to be able to purchase something which will help patients and make staff’s jobs easier”.
