College staff raise £1000 for My WiSH Charity
Staff at West Suffolk College have raised an impressive £1000 for My WiSH Charity who support West Suffolk Hospital in ensuring patients and their families receive the best treatment and service possible.
Raised at the end of term Staff Association Christmas lunch the money was mostly raised by holding a raffle with many local suppliers and businesses donating a variety of prizes and gifts. Vicky Richardson, Staff Association Chairperson at the college said: “I would like to say how proud I am that we have been able to raise such a huge amount for My WiSH during our staff Christmas raffle. We know this is going to a great cause and will be utilised extremely well by the charity.”
Each year the College nominate a different local charity to receive funds raised from both the Christmas dinner and summer staff party and this year My WiSH were extremely grateful to receive the nomination. Sally Daniels, Appeal Manager for the charity said “West Suffolk College have been wonderful supporters of My WiSH Charity. It is great to work together because we all have the same aim, to support the community and make a difference. This donation will help us to continue to enhance the care of patients and their families so we really are truly grateful to the college.”
The funds raised on this occasion will go towards the ‘Butterfly Fund’ which focuses on end of life care for the patients of West Suffolk Hospital and also on making sure the support is there for both the patients and their loved ones.
The College have really started to build a great working relationship with the charity and it was just recently that My WiSH came in to the college to carry out health and wellbeing checks and heart checks for staff members.
Laraine Moody, Vice Principal Employer Engagement at the College said: “We are delighted to further enhance our close working relationship with West Suffolk Hospital by supporting My WiSH and their new appeal, the Butterfly appeal. Many of our staff and students have been affected by bereavement and had relatives cared for by staff at West Suffolk Hospital. This much needed campaign will raise awareness and funds for people in need and West Suffolk College looks forward to helping with more planned events and raising awareness.”
