Members of the St Edmundsbury branch of the Oddfellow have given a boost to My WiSH Charity’s Every Heart Matters Appeal.

For they have chosen it as their charity for the next two years with an initial donation of £500 … and a further similar amount due next year.

They chose to support the appeal at their annual meeting.

The Oddfellows is one of the largest friendly societies in the UK and the St Edmundsbury branch has nearly 500 members locally.

Based in Whiting Street it helps members get more enjoyment out of life by offering friendship and a wide range of social events and activities, as well as offering care, advice and support in times of need.

Jacky Nunn, the branch chairman for the year, handed over the cheque and said: “Each year we ask our members to nominate a charity they would like to support for a two year period, and this year they recognised the wonderful projects that My WiSH Charity operate.”

And secretary Penny Jones added: “We aim to support local organisations and a lot of our members and friends of members have been touched by the work that has been undertaken by My WiSH and everyone is going to benefit from the appeal at some point.”

For the Every Heart Matters appeal is aiming to raise £500,000 for a new cardiac suite at the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite that will provide quicker access to more treatments, but the £500,000 My WiSH Charity is hoping to raise will lead to the whole unit, which is currently fragmented on different floors, being brought together in one purpose-built centre.
