Ben speaks of his delight after fantastic first year of fundraising

Arthrose-Appeal-2014-005-croppedAs the campaign to fundraise for West Suffolk Hospital’s Trauma and Orthopaedic Department approaches its first anniversary, the man behind it has spoken of his overwhelming delight at raising more than half of the target.

A year ago this week, Ixworth businessman Ben Lord launched the Arthrose Appealwith a £25,000 target in gratitude of the first-class treatment his Nan, Beryl Rose, and the family had received from the department over the past decade.

In addition to the fundraising, Ben’s big priority from the campaign was to raise awareness of the work of the department as well as fundraise for specialist walking frames for patients recovering from hip and knee replacement operations.

After raising more than £14,200, Ben said: “I am truly delighted with how well this appeal has been supported within the community - that’s enabled us to raise more than 50% of the £25,000 we are looking to raise. I am so very grateful to everyone who has donated and supported this.”

Over the past year, the appeal has held a range of events including a quiz night, coffee morning and an Elvis tribute night whilst also receiving donations from 11 local parish councils, including Mildenhall, Ixworth, Bacton, Little Thurlow, Kedington, Lawshall and Barrow.

That will hopefully lead to an enhanced level of rehabilitation and quicker discharge from hospital.”

Dave Gooderham, Fundraising Manager for the West Suffolk Hospital Charity said: “We are indebted to Ben for not just raising a significant sum of money but also for the time and dedication he has put in to supporting West Suffolk Hospital Charity and in particular the orthopaedics department.”
