Seven-year-old Jack to get on his bike for Rainbow Ward

Seven-year-old Jack to get on his bike for Rainbow Ward

Age will prove no barrier for Jack Brookes as he tackles a 45-mile charity bike run - at the tender age of seven years old.

Jack will be cycling the Peddars Way on 30 and 31 of May to raise money for West Suffolk Hospital\'s Rainbow Ward.

Spending two days on his bike, and accompanied by his mum Annie, an assistant practitioner in the hospital\'s breast imaging unit, Jack said he couldn't wait to take on the challenge between Knettishall Heath and Hunstanton.

Ani said: "Jack first did some fundraising last year when he cycled 17 miles in the Historic Churches Cycle Ride and this time he wanted to support the Rainbow Ward.

"He, like so many youngsters in west Suffolk, has spent time on the Ward, although fortunately only for a small amount of time. But he still wanted to do his bit."

Jack, who goes to St Edmundsbury CEVA Primary School, added: "I enjoy cycling and thought this would be a good way to raise money for the hospital. I know it will be tough - but I know I can do it."

Dave Gooderham, fundraising manager at the hospital, said: "I was delighted when Ani contacted me to say her son wanted to do a 45-mile cycle ride.

"I was staggered when she said he was only seven years old. It is great thing Jack is doing and every penny raised will make a big difference to children in the Rainbow Ward."
