Quiz night organised to support Arthrose Appeal
The man behind a campaign to fundraise for West Suffolk Hospital's Trauma and Orthopaedic Department has spoken of his delight after reaching his first milestone figure.
Ixworth businessman Ben Lord launched the Arthrose Appeal in gratitude of the first-class treatment his Nan, Beryl Rose, and the family had received from the department over the past decade.
Ben's big priority from the campaign was to raise awareness of the work of the department as well as fundraise for specialist walking frames for patients recovering from hip and knee replacement operations.
After raising more than £1,500, enough to pay for the first state-of-the-art walking frame, Ben said: "I am delighted with how the appeal has started and I would like to thank every single person who has donated.
"We held a great quiz night and coffee morning to boost funds and several local parish councils, including Mildenhall, Ixworth, Bacton, Little Thurlow, Kedington, Lawshall and Barrow, have all contributed donations to the appeal which has been gratefully received."
The next event will see an Elvis tribute night take to the stage at the The Pykkerell in Ixworth on Saturday 24th May from 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced £10 each and are available from Chapman's Stores in Ixworth or Dave Gooderham, Fundraising Manager at the West Suffolk Hospital, on 01284 712952.
Further support has come from Bury MP David Ruffley, who donated a signed bottle of House of Commons whiskey for a future auction while Ben is also working with Thetford-based company TakeBack in the recycling of empty printer cartridges.
Ben added: "This is a great way to support the Arthrose Appeal and help the environment at the same time and all printer cartridges from the West Suffolk Hospital this year will be recycled in aid of the Arthrose Appeal.
"We are looking to expand this appeal out throughout the local area as this is such an easy way to generate funds for the appeal."
