Every Heart Matters
Heart disease is the single biggest killer in the UK, and worldwide. On average one person dies every three minutes from the disease
Here in west Suffolk, we are on a mission to transform and improve the care patients with heart conditions receive at our hospital.
We are launching our biggest appeal yet and need your help in reaching our £500,000 fundraising target to build a new cardiac diagnostic unit.
Activity in the hospital’s cardiology department has been increasing year on year, with a significant increase in patient demand in the last five years.
However, a proportion of patients with heart conditions in west Suffolk have to be treated elsewhere for a range of cardiac services that are currently not available at West Suffolk Hospital.
The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is investing £5.2m in developing a state of the art cardiac suite that will provide quicker access to more treatments for our local community.
My WiSH Charity’s Every Heart Matters appeal needs to raise £500,000 to support the build of a new cardiac diagnostic unit alongside the cardiac suite to create a fully integrated cardiac centre that will enhance the treatment of all our cardiac patients.
How will the new cardiac diagnostic unit help?
Diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (ECGs), echocardiograms, and stress tests are currently conducted two floors above the hospital’s current cardiac unit.
A new cardiac diagnostic unit alongside the cardiac suite will ensure the best possible experience for our patients because the new space will be dedicated entirely for cardiac patients.
- It will allow diagnostic tests, checks and follow up to happen all in one place.
- It will mean patients do not need to visit other departments or repeatedly dress and undress for tests and scans
- The fully integrated cardiac centre will unite all cardiac care at West Suffolk Hospital into one location; ensuring patient care is delivered jointly with cardiologists and diagnostics working together in one specialist area.
Renowned Newmarket jockey Frankie Dettori, the official Every Heart Matters ambassador, said:
“I have spent 31 years in Newmarket and consider myself a Suffolk person; the appeal is very much local to me and my family, and we all have the opportunity to support great new facilities in our hospital, so I am more than happy to help out.
“This is the biggest appeal that the charity has taken on, so let’s hope we get the funds to make the dream a reality.”
